Abstract
The present investigation was aimed to explore the antifeedant activity of hexane, dichloromethane (DCM), acetone and aqueous extracts of leaves of Catharanthus roseus against the shoot and fruit borer of bhendi, Earias vittella . Among the different crude extracts tested, at 5 % concentration of DCM extract revealed significant antifeedant activity against E. vittella . This crude extract was further separated into five fractions with silica gel column. The fraction five showed maximum antifeedant activity of 84.60 % at 1000 ppm concentration. The study, suggested that crude and fractions from C. roseus exhibited biopesticidal activity against E. vittella . It could be studied further and develop formulation for control the agricultural pests.
