•Hollow double silica @ mesoporous magnesium silicate magnetic hierarchical nanotubes were synthesized for the first time.•MgSNTs showed excellent prformance for the removal of low concentration methylene blue and high concentration rodamine B.•It could be easily discovered from solution.
