Abstract
An efficient method was developed for the synthesis of pamidronic acid involving the reaction of beta-alanine with three equivalents of phosphorus trichloride and two equivalents of phosphorous acid at 75 degrees C in the presence of 0.3 or 0.6 equivalents of [BMIM][PF6] as an additive.
