Abstract
long and coarse hair at the affected sites. It is known that trauma evokes increased regional blood flow, and it is acknowledged that heat and cutaneous hyperaemia are stimulants of hair follicles. In addition, chronic irritation of the skin caused by the friction created by the cast remains a possible cause. Thus, perhaps a combination of repetitive trauma and secondary hyperaemia are the mechanisms leading to hypertrichosis in inflamed areas. Development of hypertrichosis in FFA following cast application further supports the idea that hair loss in FFA might not be permanent. This observed phenomenon could lead to novel therapeutic approaches to stimulate hair production in FFA.
