Influences of Ru Substitution for Mn on Magnetic Properties and Charge Ordering Phase of La 0.4 Ca 0.6 MnO 3

La0.4Ca0.6Mn1-xRuxO3 (x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08) were prepared by the solid- state reaction method. The structure of the samples was detected by X- ray diffraction ( XRD) patterns, and the influences of the substitution of Ru with 4d electrons for Mn on magnetic properties and charge ordering phase of La0.4Ca0.6MnO3 were studied through the measurements of magnetization-temperature ( M-T) curves and electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra. The results indicate that: with the increase of Ru substitution amount, magnetism strengthens gradually, and antiferromagnetism weakens gradually; Ru substitution for Mn easily destroys the charge ordering phase of La0.4Ca0.6MnO3, and charge ordering phase is melted when x = 0.04. This is because Ru ions are mainly in the form of Ru4+ with high spin when Ru substitutes for Mn, the electronic correlation of 4d electrons is weaker than that of 3d electrons, and the delocalization of 4d electrons is strong, which are beneficial to double exchange function, then ferromagnetism strengthens and antiferromagnetism weakens.
