摘要
Photodynamic diagnosis is a novel imaging technology for the detection of tumors. Administration of five-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA), a precursor of photosensitizing protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), provides a good visualization of brain and bladder tumors during PDD. However, utility of PDD in gastric carcinomas have been largely unexplored. Detection of fluorescence in the cancers may be influenced by expression of proteins involved in absorbance, activation, and turnover of protoporphyrin IX within the tumor cells. Aim of the study was to assess the variety of fluorescence among different types of carcinoma during PDD, and to examine the expression of the proteins which potentially participate to expression of PpIX.
