Low cost and new design of transient hot-wire technique for the thermal conductivity measurement of fluids

•A low cost and re-designed Transient Hot-Wire apparatus has been constructed.•New innovations were implemented in the electrical circuit of THW.•Two stimulations were used using alternating and direct currents to reduce the noise.•Average measurement uncertainties are ±1.2 and ±0.9% for water & EG, respectively.
