A Survey on Sleep Status and Sleep Disorder among Infants

Abstract
Objective To investigate the sleep status of 1-12 months old infants in Jiaxing. Methods Randomly chose 1191 1-12 months old infants who took a routine medical examination in the department of children health care in Women and Children Healthcare Hospital of Jiaxing city and helped the parents fill the questionnaire of infant sleep quality. Results The average sleep time of four groups( 1-3 months,4-6 months,7-9 months and 10-12 months old) was 15. 52,14.40,13. 07 and 12.01 hours per day,respectively. The differences among these four groups in total sleep time and daytime sleep were statistically significant( P 0. 05). No significant difference was observed in night sleep duration( P 0. 05),while the sleep times of daytime and night showed no differences among all groups( P 0. 05). More than 50% of all infants went asleep before 8: 00 pm,and more than 20% between 8: 00- 10: 00 pm,less than 15% went asleep after 10: 00 pm. The incidence of sleep disorder was 35. 26%. There was no significant difference among four groups in different types of sleep disorder( all P 0. 05) except for circadian rhythm disorder( P 0. 01). Conclusion High incidences of insufficient sleep time and sleep disorder among infants has been found in this study,Attentions by parents and children healthcare workers should be. taken.
