Abstract
Synthetic method of dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) modified terephthalic unsaturated polyester resin(TUPR) was probed. Terephthalic acid was first reacted with glycols, the prepolymer was added to a reactor containing DCPD and maleic anhydride, then water with equivalent mol ratio of DCPD was dropped into the reactor under 80-120 ℃, reacting for 2.5 hours. Afterwards other components were incorporated and esterified under higher temperature until the reaction was complete. Contents of DCPD effect solubility and curing degree of TUPR. DCPD modified TUPR has excellent properties such as higher mechanical strength, better air drying, and better thermal and chemical resistance compared with conventional ones.
