Surgical correction of scoliosis with anterior approach

ObjectiveTo study the results of anterior surgery for scoliosis correction. Methods The cases of eighty-three patients with scoliosis were corrected by the anterior operation or anterior-posterior combined operation. The clinical charcteristics、indications and operation methods were evaluated. Results A followed up period of 18 months on average had been taken revealing that seventy-five cases got three-dimensional correction. ConclusionAnterior operation seems to be the best choice for patients with scoliosis of Risser sign 0～1 degree. Not only the thoracolumbar and lumbar scoliosis can be applied with anterior surgery, but also the King types III、IV and I、II can be applied. In severe scoliosis, the combining anterior and posterior instrumentation is always necessary.
