Determination of ceftriaxone sodium by visible spectrophotometry

Because of the fact that Ceftriaxone sodium can be oxidized by Fe3+,and Fe3+is reduced to Fe2+,Fe2 +and K3[Fe(CN)6] generate soluble Prussian blue.A new method for determination of Ceftriaxone sodium was established by measuring the generated Prussian blue absorbance at 733 nm.The content of Ceftriaxone sodium shows a good linear relationship with absorbance in the range of 0.11 ~7.20μg·m L-1.The regression equation of calibration is A=0.2717ρ(mg·m L-1)+0.0325,and the correlation coefficient is R=0.9992 and apparent molar coefficient is e=1.8×105L·(mol·cm)-1.This method has been applied to determine the Ceftriaxone sodium powder injection in pharmaceuticals with satisfactory results.The average recovery was 100.5%.
