Study on the Structure and Property of Vulcanized Rubber in Hot Asphalt

The NR and SBR Vulcanizates was used for simulating the thermal storage in hot as-phalt,instead of crumb rubber powder.The structure and property of vulcanized rubber in hot asphalt were studied by measuring the swelling index,crosslink density,sol content,hardness and tensile strength with different thermal storage times.The results showed that the swelling of rubber went through a fast-growing process and then achieved balance in hot asphalt.Vulcanized rubbers were de-graded under high temperature and swelling effect.Crosslink density showed a trend of rapid decline and then slowly go lower.Sol content increased significantly with the loss of the crosslink density and the hardness and mechanical performance decreased significantly.
