•Addition of cationic surfactant induces a drastic reorganization of fulvic colloid.•Fulvic acid/DTAC complexes show a strong surface activity.•Spontaneous vesicle formation is observed in the SRFA/DTAC system.•The results support a supramolecular structure of fulvic colloid.
