Characteristics of Hypertension Maintained in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats: Observation on Conception Rate, Litter Size and Blood Pressure of SHR
Chinese Journal of Laboratory Animal Science(2004)
Abstract
Objective To maintain the characteristics of hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rat(SHR) Methods The breeding of rats were used for brother-sister mating The conception rate and the offspring number per litter of SHR were recorded for 2 years The blood pressure and heart rate of SHR were measured at 12,16,20 week-old Results First year, the mean conception rate of SHR was lower(77 5%) than WKy(90 0%; P =0.12),and the offspring number per litter was higher(7 4 rats) than WKy(6 5 rats; P =0 01)for three generations Second year, the average conception rate and the offspring number per litter of SHR were higher(82 7% and 6 9 rats) than WKy(58 8%, P =0 001;4,3 rats, P 0 001) for two generations The average systolic blood pressure(SBP) in males at 12,16 and 20 week-old in the flrst year were 187 7±9 0, 197 0±7 5 and 199 0±7 6 mmHg Second year, the average SBP in males at 12,16 and 20 week-old were 177 5±10 7,197 9±7.2 and 199 7±6.8 mmHg respectively Conelusion The productive performance of SHR was similar with WKy;the characteristics of hypertension in SHR were maintained for 2 years
