Research Progress of Montmorillonite and Its Composites as a Drug Carrier

Montmorillonite(MMT)is known for its wide application as a pharmaceutic adjuvant and its huge market potential in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. In recent years,MMT as a drug carrier has attracted growing interests from researchers and most of the efforts were put into MMT as a carrier of sustained or controlled release preparations for antineoplastic drugs. Some also focused on its role as a carrier for correctives and a carrier to reduce toxic and side effects. From a perspective of two categories,a summarization of recent research progresses of MMT and its composites as a drug carrier both in China and other countries and areas was made,aiming to provide scientific proofs for any researcher who wishes to carry out in-depth study in MMT-based drug delivery system.
