Effects of tanshinone II A on expression of VCAM-1 in atherosclerotic mice

Objective To investigate the effects of tanshinone Ⅱ A on expression of VCAM-1 in atherosclerotic mice.Methods 30 mices were divided into three groups and loaded with different diet for 12 weeks.Blood samples were collected for examination of serum lipid levels,and the atherosclerotic plaque area on aortic tunica intima were measured and the expression of VCAM-1 were detected by immuno-histochemistry.Results There was no significantly differences in blood lipid level between Tanshinone Ⅱ A groups and AS model group(P0.05).Compared with the AS model group,the plaque area in Tanshinone Ⅱ A group was significantly smaller.The expression of VCAM-1 of Tanshinone ⅡA group was decreased significantly than that of AS model group(P0.05).Conclusions Tanshinone Ⅱ A could inhibit atherosclerotic progression,which may correlated with the decreased expression of VCAM-1.
