摘要
A new model for wide-metropolitan area optical networks in mesh topology, operating in OPS/OBS modes is analyzed through computer simulation. This model is based on a photonic switching lossless optical node. Basic network parameters such as latency (delay), average number of hops (ANH) and packet loss fraction (PLF) are evaluated with variable link loads to quantify network performance. Store-Forward (SF) and Deflection Routing (DR) transport protocols are compared and demonstrate that inter-node connectivity is more critical than network size (number of nodes) for network throughput and flexibility. This model offers the network planner choice of size (number of nodes), of node connectivity grades, and of routing protocol. This should be helpful for design and planning of cost-effective optical networks.
