METHODS Between 1992 and 20015, 180 patients underwent continent urinary diversion using Mitrofanoff procedure in our institution. 122 patients (67.7%),66 males and 56 females, were questioned about their diversion, regarding to their living conditions. We used a self-administered questionnaire of 19 items translated in their spoken language. The mean age was 27 years (range: 10 to 72 years). The indication for the diversion was mainly a neurological disease (90%). RESULTS After surgery, all patients exhibit daily and nocturnal continence, although 6 of them after local stoma revision. Self-catheterization was considered to be easy and not constraining in 103 cases (84.4%). Limitation of daily activities and leisure imputed to their diversion were estimated respectively in 4 and 17.5%. 82 patients out of 89 (92%) returned to work and 53 students out of 67 (79%) successfully retook their usual education. Out of 62 who used to be sexually active, 51 reported a satisfactory sexual life after their operation (82.25%). three women had got normal pregnancy and then operated by caesarean section with good outcome. Finally, MCEUD was considered to be satisfactory in 95% of cases regarding to its hygienic and psychological consequences. CONCLUSIONS The MCEUD allows better familial, social and professional approval by patients than other non continent diversion procedures; it allows good rehabilitation, provided the patients, especially children, adhere to their new diversion management scheme. © 2016FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 195Issue 4SApril 2016Page: e427 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2016MetricsAuthor Information mohamed nabil mhiri More articles by this author mohamed amine mseddi More articles by this author anis masmoudi More articles by this author mohamed fourati More articles by this author mehdi bouassida More articles by this author nouri rebai More articles by this author mourad hadj slimen More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
