Assessing the tolerance of weanling pigs to a model feed flavour in the diet

•A tolerance trial was carried out to evaluate the safety of feeding multifold doses of a model flavour containing 20 chemically defined flavouring compounds to weanling piglets.•The approach used in the trial allows for the testing of flavour mixtures that are representative of those available in the marketplace, thereby reflecting typical animal exposure levels.•Results obtained from the trial demonstrate the feasibility of tolerance testing in target animal species (swine), using flavour mixtures, rather than individual flavour compounds.
