Abstract
•Production of essential oil in leaves and roots of Piper aduncum L. in different environmental light conditions.•The roots produce more essential oil that leaves, regardless of lighting conditions.•Majoritarian compounds found in leaves were Linalol, Caryophyllene, α-Humulene, E- nerolidol and cis-Cadin-4-en-ol.•Majoritarian compounds found in roots were α-Selinene, Geranil-2-metil-butyrate, bulnesol, Elimicin, Dillapiole and Apiole.•Light influences the oil content and the major constituents of Piper aduncum L.
