Alterations of hemorheological parameters and tubulin content in erythrocytes from diabetic subjects

•High glucose promote in erythrocytes translocation of tubulin to the membrane.•Membrane tubulin regulates erythrocyte deformability and osmotic fragility.•High glucose concentrations induce increases of acetylation of tubulin.•Tubulin acetylation resulted from inhibition of deacetylase enzymes.•The mechanism explains involvement of tubulin in diabetes.
