Angiopoietin-like protein 4 serum levels and gene polymorphisms are associated with large artery atherosclerotic stroke.

•The serum ANGPLT4 levels are positively correlated with the severity and ischaemic volume of LAA stroke.•Tagged ANGPTL4 SNPs, including rs4076317 and rs1044250, do not influence the serum ANGPTL4 levels.•Rs4076317, was not found to be associated with LAA stroke through multivariable logistic analyses.
