A Contribution to the Understanding of Solingen Steel in the 19(th) Century

Two weapons manufactured in Solingen during the 19(th) century were examined metallographically and chemically whereby the mechanical properties were found to correspond with the of a fine lamellar pearlite. The manufacturing process was then simulated using a mod: type of steel with a chemical composition close as possible to that used in the manufacture of the original two sabres, whereby a material with almost the same properties was a to be produced.
