Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is a syndrome of disordered metabolism that manifests with elevated blood glucose levels. The onset of diabetes heralds a drastic and permanent change in the lifestyle of the affected child, as well as the entire family unit. Type 1 diabetes is a complex condition requiring insulin administration in conjunction with a structured meal plan. The treatment approach should take into consideration social, economic, cultural and logistical factors, to achieve optimal control of the condition.
