•Properties of moisture-exposed glass fiber reinforced PA66 (GFRP) were examined.•The moisture absorption behavior of GFRP could be divided into four stages.•Moisture absorption has significant effect on mechanical properties of GFRP.•Brittle to ductile transition of GFRP leads to change in mechanical properties.
