Search for the neutron-rich hypernucleus (9)(Lambda) He

Search for the neutron-rich hypernucleus (9)(Lambda) He is reported by the FINUDA experiment at DA Phi NE, INFN-LNF, studying (pi(+), pi) pairs in coincidence from the K-stop(-) + Be-9 -> (9)(Lambda) He + pi(+) production reaction followed by (9)(Lambda) He -> Li-9 + pi(-) weak decay. An upper limit of the production rate of (9)(Lambda) He undergoing this two-body pi(-) decay is determined to be (2.3 +/- 1.9) x 10(-6)/K-stop(-) at the 90% confidence level.
