Pt nanowires in situ growth on patterned polydopamine film for neural electrodes

We reported a low-cost and facile method to deposit nanostructured metal layer for neural electrodes, by growing platinum nanowires (PtNW) in situ on patterned polydopamine (PDA) film using micro contact printing (CP). Compared with traditional metal deposition processes such as sputtering or evaporation, this method has advantages of simple process, low cost and improved adhesion between the metal layer and substrate. The PDA/PtNW demonstrated good biocompatibility and low square impedance down to 61.5 / and remained almost unchanged after ultrasound-based mechanical testings.
