Abstract

•One-pot synthesis of highly functionalized novel (E)-2-benzylideno-(Z)-carbazolylideno cyanoacetamides.•Plausible mechanism for the formation of (E)-2-benzylideno-(Z)-carbazolylideno cyanoacetamide.•The ‘E, Z’ isomer is getting stabilized through seven membered ring by intramolecular H-bonding.•The molecules 3a, 3d, & 3h showed good biofilm inhibition against four pathogens.
