•Sulindac imprinted biomaterial films were prepared using mungbean starch and PVA.•UV irradiation time for the preparation of biomaterial films was optimized.•Recognition properties were evaluated using binding isotherm and Scatchard analysis.•Release of sulindac using an artificial skin was released constantly for 20 days.
