N -Heterocyclic Carbene-Catalyzed Trifluoromethylation of Aromatic N -Tosylaldimines

Nucleophilic trifluoromethylation of aromatic N -tosylaldimines has been achieved using trifluoromethyltrimethylsilane (TMSCF 3 ) in the presence of the in situ generated N -heterocyclic carbene catalysts. Aromatic N -tosylaldimines with electron-withdrawing as well as electron-donating groups on the aryl ring afforded the corresponding trifluoromethylated sulfonamides in moderate to good yields.
