A randomized controlled trial of a manual-only treatment for reduction and cessation of problematic caffeine use.

•Some individuals experience clinically meaningful problems related to caffeine use.•We assessed the efficacy of a manual-only treatment for gradual caffeine reduction.•Individuals with problematic caffeine use enrolled in a randomized controlled trial.•Treatment resulted in reduction of both caffeine use and caffeine-related distress.•This time- and cost-effective intervention may be useful for treatment providers.
