Full length foot orthoses have an immediate treatment effect and modify gait of children with idiopathic toe walking.

•Foot orthoses and high-top boots reduce the immediate occurrence of toe walking.•With this treatment children with ITW alter their stance and swing phases.•Children with ITW increase stride time and double support time with this treatment.•The longer ground contact time may reflect subtle change in local dynamic stability.
