•RAS activation is believed to be the mechanism by which HU results in high BP.•Conflicting data exists on the levels of PRA in humans with HU.•No information is available about the relationship between PAC and SUA levels.•We found weak associations of SUA levels with PRA and with PAC in EH subjects.•These associations are largely mediated by measures of adiposity or body dimensions and renal function.
