Developmental toxicity and molecular responses of marine medaka (Oryzias melastigma) embryos to ciguatoxin P-CTX-1 exposure.

•P-CTX-1 caused significant negative effects on fish embryotic development.•Transcriptional analysis also supported the observed developmental abnormalities.•Newly hatched medaka larvae were more sensitive to P-CTX-1 than embryos.•Oryzias melastigma could be used as a bioindicator in ciguatoxins bioassays.
