Abstract
•Organochloride wastes pre-dechlorination by microwave is a way to enhance SRF quality.•The microwave dechlorinated temperature is low but the dechlorination ratio is high.•The content of Cl of modified SRF is dramatically decreased and the modified SRF can be ascended from the third class to the second class according to the Finland chlorine Classes I-III. It will be expected to decrease HCl dramatically.•The combustibility and combustion stability of modified SRF was substantial improved compared to the traditional SRF. The low heating value is close to the LHV of lignite coal and bituminous coal in China.•The increased combustible properties are looking forward to enhance the energy conversion efficiency of modified SRF as an alternative fuel in the future.
