Synergy and antagonism between iron chelators and antifungal drugs in Cryptococcus.

•Iron chelators were tested for synergy with antifungal drugs against Cryptococcus.•Interactions between chelators and antifungals were uncommon.•Lactoferrin was synergistic with amphotericin B for all strains of Cryptococcus.•Azole drugs were antagonised by some chelators in Cryptococcus neoformans var. grubii.
