Evaluation of the efficacy of antifungal drugs against Paracoccidioides brasiliensis and Paracoccidioides lutzii in a Galleria mellonella model

•Galleria mellonella is a useful model to evaluate infection by Paracoccidioides spp. and response to antifungals.•Fungicidal and fungistatic effects of amphotericin B and itraconazole, respectively, were observed in the model.•Antifungals did not affect the haemocyte density.•G. mellonella can serve as a rapid model to test other isolates of Paracoccidioides and to screen new antifungals.
