Demodex phylloides infection in swine reared in a peri-urban family farm located on the outskirts of the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Brazil.

•A rare case of porcine demodicodis is reported in detail.•Clinical features, parasitology, microbiology, and pathology are presented.•Animals reared under poor conditions had multimorbidity and immunosuppression.•Severe clinical porcine demodicosis was triggered when the animals were castrated.•Sanitary measures were adopted to improve herd health and economic gain.
