•Levofloxacin significantly reduces CLABSI and neutropenic fever in this population.•The greatest impact is the prevention of mucosal barrier injury CLABSIs.•Antibiotic use for neutropenic fever is also reduced.•No increased risk in C. difficile infection was observed.
