•Older PBSC donors have lower CD34+ yields, leading to higher volume collections.•Higher volume and number of collections lead to high rates of thrombocytopenia.•Younger PBSC donors have higher rates of acute pain and symptoms with PBSC collection.•Older PBSC donors have a higher rate of nonrecovery to baseline at 1 year.•Donors with comorbidities are at increased risk for pain and symptoms at 1 year.
