Does Low Birthweight Have an Impact on Living Kidney Donor Outcomes?
Transplantation Proceedings(2018)
Abstract
•Donors with low birthweight (LBW) are more likely to present new-onset hypertension after donor nephrectomy.•Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) before kidney donation is significantly lower in the LBW group, both for split renal function and total kidney function.•Donors with low birthweight are more likely to develop hypertension postdonation.•Predonation GFR is one of the major factors that determines the suitability for donation, so birthweight should be taken into consideration with marginal donors.
