•Adsorption mechanism was studied on superficially- and fully porous-chiral stationary phases.•Saturation capacity of chiral core–shell particles is lower than that of fully porous ones.•Binding constants are larger on superficially porous particles than on fully porous ones.•Binding constants could be dependent from specific loading of chiral selector.•Mobile phase modifier affects selective and nonselective Henry's constants differently.
