Immunohistochemical distinction of ABC and GCB in extranodal DLBCL is not reflected in mutation patterns

•147 DLBCLs were subtyped into ABC and GCB using the Visco-Young IHC algorithm.•In nodal DLBCL CD79A/B and MYD88 mutations were found predominantly in ABC lymphomas.•Extranodal DLBCL showed no difference in mutation pattern between ABC and GCB types.•Mutation patterns in extranodal DLBCL instead depended on the morphological site.
