•The Michigan Hand Questionnaire (MHQ) and brief version of MHQ (bMHQ) were adapted into Canadian French (MHQ-CF and bMHQ-CF).•The MHQ-CF and bMHQ-CF have similar reliability as versions in other languages.•A few differences were found in their construct validity.•They are reliable and valid for francophone patients with hand/wrist conditions.
