Abstract
•Cellulose nanofibrils extracted from agave waste were used as reinforcements.•Nanocomposites using only natural, native and renewable materials were prepared.•Mechanical properties improved when the content of nanofibrils increases.•Hydrophilicity of the matrix (starch) predominantly controls the water absorption.
