•Despite linoleic acid's relatively low concentration in the mammalian brain, oxidized linoleic acid derived mediators are detectable in small samples of mouse brain tissue representing functionally defined brain nuclei.•The concentration of some oxidized linoleic acid derived lipid mediators in punch biopsies of mouse amygdala and periaqueductal grey decrease during a model of chronic inflammatory pain.•Epoxy alcohol derivatives of linoleic acid are present in mouse brain tissue.
