•Skull hemangioma presents spontaneous acute subdural hemorrhage fairly infrequently.•Skull hemangioma sometimes needs to be removed after many years of uneventful follow-up.•This tumor shows clinical and histologic heterogeneity.•Complete surgical removal consistently makes a major contribution to achieving good patient outcomes.
