•Time- and spatially-resolved 1O2 luminescence detection in vivo with high SNR.•Decay times of 1O2 kinetics in vivo can be assigned to PS triplet lifetime and singlet oxygen lifetime.•Strong influence of the oxygen partial pressure on the 1O2 luminescence kinetics was shown in vivo.•Differentiation between venous and arterial blood.
