•First clinical data on outcome of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with a novel mini electrode (ME) equipped catheter•Outcomes are comparable between ME catheter and a standard contact force sensing catheter.•The ME catheter is superior in detection of left atrial low voltage areas compared to a standard contact force catheter.
