•CLL patients have a significantly higher risk of invasive melanoma.•Most melanomas (68.2%) were detected through active surveillance in a dermatology clinic.•Most melanomas (77.3%) were detected at a non-advanced stage.•Active surveillance for melanoma leading to early excision could be beneficial.•Ibrutinib and pembrolizumab was effective therapy for progressive CLL and metastatic melanoma.
